On March 14, 2016 at the Ministry of Commerce, H.E. Sun Chanthol met with Mr. Samiuela T. Tukuafu, new Country Director of the Cambodia Resident Mission for the Asian Development Bank.
Mr. Tukuafu expressed his appreciation for the ongoing cooperation between the Ministry of Commerce and ADB and looked forward to continue working on the medium- term strategic plan and continued dialog with the Ministry.
He informed the Minister that the ADB has increased its capital and development loan to USD 200 million for next year, and that they will focus on Cambodia’s rural infrastructure and the cross cutting issues of the financial sector and public financial management as well as human capital development, that allows the people of Cambodia to access higher educations and vocational training.
The Senior Minister expressed his appreciation for ADB’s cooperation and involvement and briefed the Country Director on the reforms that are taking place at the Ministry of Commerce to facilitate trade and investment.
Minister Sun sought the ADB’s support for critical capacity building programs, the outstanding laws on competition and consumer protection, the identified priorities clusters and support for the Buy Cambodian Product Initiative that encourages local branding and production within the country.
